Hernando pitcher Brett Maggard to sign with St. Johns River

Hernando pitcher and outfielder Brett Maggard will join fellow Leopard Ian Townsend and sign with St. Johns River Community College on Tuesday.

Maggard transferred to Hernando from Springstead following his junior year. Last season for the Eagles, Maggard hit .359 with 24 RBIs, eight doubles, two triples and four home runs. As a pitcher, Maggard made nine appearances, going 4-2 with a 1.87 ERA and 42 strikeouts.

Maggard was a Times all-North Suncoast second team selection last season.

On Friday, Maggard's teammate at Hernando, Ian Townsend, announced that he was also committing to St. Johns River Community College. The two will sign at 9 a.m. on Tuesday at Hernando.
