Hernando P/OF Brandon Lawson has verbally committed to USF, Leopards coach Tim Sims said Friday morning in an email.
He’s the second Hernando junior to make a recent college commitment, after SS Christian Arroyo committed to Florida last week.
Lawson, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound right-hander, holds a 3.03 ERA in 37 innings this spring. He’s held opponents to a .228 batting average with 52 strikeouts and 14 walks.
He pushed Hernando into tonight’s Class 5A, District 7 title game with a shutout performance (six hits, six strikeouts, no walks) against Crystal River on Wednesday.
At the plate, Lawson has a .298 average with 11 RBIs, four doubles and a home run.
