Tyrail Hawkins, ATH, Hernando (5-11, 180)

The latest: The junior running back/defensive back will attend junior days at UCF and FIU the next two weekends, Leopards coach John Palmer said Thursday night.

Last season: He led the run-happy Leopards with 1,242 yards and 16 touchdown rushes during an all-North Suncoast season. Hawkins also caught three TDs, intercepted two passes and defended nine others.

We say: Hawkins is one of the North Suncoast’s quickest talents and perhaps its most versatile player. He lined up at defensive back, receiver, running back and Wildcat quarterback during the Leopards’ district title run. It doesn’t hurt that recruiters will be on campus to see his teammate, star pass rusher Darren Hambrick. Expect more Division I programs to show interest in Hawkins.
