Times’ Super Seven
Records through Wednesday
1. Jesuit (10-1): It’s going to take more than a loss to another nationally ranked team to knock the Tigers out of this spot.
2. Jefferson (13-3): With Jimmy Herget and Corbin Olmstead both throwing effectively on short rest en route to the Saladino title, the Dragons could be a pretty tough out once the playoffs start.
3. Plant (11-3): In a matchup of top senior pitchers vs. Bloomingdale, the Panthers got a 12-1 mercy-rule win. The .332 team batting average comes against some of the county’s best pitchers in Class 8A, District 7 play.
4. Bloomingdale (13-3): The Plant loss aside, the top of the lineup is so packed with speed any base runners become instant scoring threats, even from first base.
5. Wharton (11-4): The senior duo of Shane Rubin and Colin Woody have gotten it done on the mound while the rest of the squad is hitting .292 behind them.
6. Durant (8-4): Manufacturing runs to support the pitching staff isn’t easy when trying to do it against fellow first-place teams Plant, Bloomingdale and Wharton
7. Brandon (7-6): The Eagles are perched atop the 7A-8 standings with a 5-0 record. Chris Toney is a workhorse, already topping 30 innings and still carrying a 1.26 ERA.
Just a bit outside: Alonso (8-5), Gaither (9-5), King (7-6), Newsome (8-7), Riverview (9-5), Steinbrenner (8-6), Tampa Catholic (6-4)
