Times’ Super 7
1. Tampa Catholic (9-1):
Patchwork pitching carries the Crusaders, who have a 0.90 staff ERA and have won eight in a row. TC can prove a lot in next week’s Dunedin Tournament.
2. Brandon (12-2): Ask the Eagles seniors and they’ll say their six-game win streak feels a little like their 2008 run to the state semis. They enter next weekend’s Saladino Tournament as the favorite.
3. Jesuit (12-1): We’re convinced the Tigers’ district is a yawner. They’ll see some tough competition in their Easter Tournament the week of April 6 — and rest assured their rematch with TC April 17 is marked on the schedule.
4. Gaither (9-2): Cowboys have outscored opponents 62-12 in past five games. Game against Durant will be a good test.
5. Steinbrenner (10-2): Warriors played Jesuit close before falling 4-2 Saturday. We think this young team will be pretty darn good by playoff time.
6. Alonso (10-4): Ravens are back to their winning ways, outscoring this week’s opponents 15-0 since a loss to Brandon.
7. Bloomingdale (9-4): Bulls get back on track with big wins over Armwood and Wharton.
In the conversation: Armwood (9-5), Durant (8-4), Sickles (8-4), Jefferson (9-3), Cambridge (12-2)
