Standout performances from Friday night
Lance McCullers, Jesuit. The top pitcher in Hillsborough County brought his top stuff against Spoto, tossing a no-hitter and striking out 12 in a five-inning, 14-0 win.
Katie Weatcher, Robinson. The sophomore tossed a one-hitter and hit a triple in the Knights’ 6-1 win over Lennard.
Dayne Wade, Newsome. The junior has been on fire since Saladino, and he continued with a 2-for-3, two-RBI performance in a 5-4 district win over first-place Wharton.
Kennedy Dean, Durant. The junior hit her first home run of the year as the Cougars shut out Plant 4-0.
Eric Striker, Armwood. Even though he’s better known as a linebacker (and will play at Oklahoma next year), he hit a triple on the diamond and scored a run in a 3-2 loss to Strawberry Crest.
Luke Gilcrease, Cambridge. Just a freshman, Gilcrease hit a double and a home run in a 6-1 win in Fort Lauderdale over Daytona Beach Seabreeze.
