How they advanced: Palmetto rallied past Strawberry Crest 59-56 in Thursday’s region quarterfinals; Sickles trounced Lakewood Ranch 57-32.

Who’s hot for Palmetto: Playing on a sprained ankle, senior G Jordan Smith nearly tallied a double double (23 points, eight rebounds) against Strawberry Crest. Smith has 45 points in the Tigers’ past two contests.

Who’s hot for Sickles: Junior F Malcolm Johnson had 18 points and senior C Eric Floyd had a double double (12 points, 10 boards) against Lakewood Ranch.

Did you know? Six nights before Lakewood Ranch was crushed by Sickles, Palmetto needed double overtime to defeat the Mustangs in the District 12 final.

Class 5A, Robinson (23-5) at Jesuit (26-1)
At stake: Winner faces Lake Wales/Rockledge winner Saturday.

How they advanced: Robinson defeated Lakewood 92-77; Jesuit defeated Boca Ciega 85-66.

Who’s hot for Robinson: Senior F Tre Leonard, averaging a double double (17.9 ppg, 10.9 rpg), collected 26 points and 16 rebounds against Lakewood.

Who’s hot for Jesuit: Junior G Jack Fleming has totaled 48 points and 10 3-pointers in his past two games; classmate Travis Johnson is averaging a double double (17 points, 10 rebounds) over his past three contests.

Did you know? Jesuit has defeated the Knights three times this season, by an average margin of 22.7 points. …Robinson hasn’t advanced this far in the postseason since 2004.

Class 4A, Avon Park (21-7) at Berkeley Prep (20-7)

At stake: Winner faces Fort Myers Bishop Verot/Boca Raton Saint Andrew’s winner Saturday.

How they advanced: Avon Park defeated Sarasota Booker 65-51; Berkeley Prep defeated Arcadia DeSoto 82-49.

Who’s hot for Avon Park: Guards Marcus Dewberry and Reggie Baker combined for 34 points against Booker.

Who’s hot for Berkeley Prep: Senior G Nelson Agholor nearly had a triple double (24 points, eight rebounds, eight steals) in the Bucs’ romp of DeSoto.

Did you know? Avon Park is two wins from its second final four berth in three years. …Berkeley is seeking its first region finals berth since 2004.

Class 3A, Tampa Prep (27-1) at Lakeland McKeel (26-1)

At stake: Winner faces Orlando First Academy/Melbourne Florida Air winner Saturday.

How they advanced: Tampa Prep crushed Lakeland Christian 70-22; McKeel defeated Seffner Christian 64-60.

Who’s hot for McKeel: PG Corey Sanders had 23 points, including the winning layup, in his team’s victory against Seffner Christian.

Who’s hot for Tampa Prep: Because of a string of recent blowout wins that allow them to substitute liberally, the Terrapins have no statistical giant. Four players, however, average in double figures.

Did you know? Both teams’ lone defeats were to Polk County heavyweights. The Terrapins lost by 13 to 2011 5A state runnerup Lake Wales; McKeel lost by 22 to current 6A region semifinalist Winter Haven.
