Girls region soccer
A, Lakeland Christian 1, Tampa Prep 0:
The Terrapins’ streak of four consecutive berths in the state final four ended in Lakeland, as the Vikings scored in the opening 10 minutes, allowing them to sit back and defend against the Tampa Prep (18-2-4) attack the rest of the match. “We only lost two games this year,” coach Cindy Schofield said. “Once the sting goes away from this game, we’ll look back and realize we had a good season.”

Region boys soccer
5A, Wharton 0, Countryside 0 (7-6 in PKs):
The Wildcats’ Joseph Ferrin hit a shot that sailed past goalkeeper Danny George to give Wharton the victory. “I was a little nervous, but to be honest I’ve never missed a penalty kick before,” Ferrin said. “I’ve made all 10 in club the past two years.”

4A, Clearwater 5, Plant City 4 (PKs): In his final prep game, Hillsborough County goals leader Cameron Roberts recorded another hat trick in a loss to the Tornadoes. Roberts’ 43 goals set a Raiders’ single-season record. Gerson Herrera added the Raiders’ other goal.

4A, Gaither 3, Lake Region 1: At Gaither, Cowboys senior Jonas Bukh continued his torrid streak with a goal and assists on both of classmate Paul Barrett’s goals. Bukh has three goals and two assists in his last two contests for Gaither (18-4-1), which plays at Lakeland George Jenkins in Friday’s Class 4A region semifinals.

4A, Seminole 7, Strawberry Crest 0: Seminole started slowly and finished with a flurry. The Warhawks led 1-0 at halftime but scored four goals in a 12-minute span to start the second half. “We could play with them,” said Chargers coach Scott Vomacka, whose team finished 7-7-3. “We felt we could win. We gave up the early goal, but we had a majority of the possessions in the first half.”

4A, Lakeland George Jenkins 3, Freedom 1: At Lakeland, Patriots junior Jett Wright gave Freedom an early lead, but the Eagles scored twice in the final three minutes to break a 1-all deadlock and escape. Wright’s goal, which came within the first 10 minutes, was followed by what coach Dennis Derflinger called a stellar defensive effort until the waning minutes.

3A, Jesuit 4, Dunedin 0: The Tigers, who managed only one goal despite 20 shots in the first half, got goals from Brett Durrance, Joe Metzger and Eric Mubang in the final 40 minutes. Ethan Saleh scored in the seventh minute for Jesuit (18-3-1), which hosts Palmetto at a date (Thursday or Friday) to be determined.

2A, Berkeley Prep 5, Frostproof 1: At Berkeley, senior Kevin Harvey had a hat trick and sophomore Daniel Felman added two goals in the Bucs’ romp. Berkeley (16-7-2) hosts Clearwater Central Catholic, whom it defeated 3-0 in the Class 2A, District 9 final, in Friday’s region semifinals.

A, Tampa Prep 2, Bradenton St. Stephen’s 2 (4-2 PKs): At Bradenton, the Terrapins set up a Friday rematch with Indian Rocks Christian, which knocked them off in last week’s A-7 title match
