HomeTeam Hot Shot
A spotlight on the Times’ bay area player of the week (Note: This is the last one for the school year).
Male Hot Shot: David Castillo, Sunlake
Skinny: Castillo didn’t just find success with his arm last week, but with his bat, too. With his team trailing 3-2 with one out in the seventh inning of the Class 5A region final against Citra North Marion, the Seahawk standout singled and came around to score. He sent the game into extra innings, where his teammates added three runs for a 6-3 win. Castillo also pitched eight innings, striking out nine to earn the victory, his third in the region playoffs, as Sunlake advanced to its first state semifinal. It was also the first state berth for Pasco County since 2002. “He has been the catalyst for us,” coach Dick Rohrberg said. “He gets on base and gets us going, and goes out and shuts the other team down.”
