Each week, our HomeTeam staffers will nominate male and female Hot Shot athletes from each of the counties we cover. These nominations span Saturday, Feb. 2 through Friday, Feb. 8. Winners get a free T-shirt and bragging rights over every other school in the area. Read up on what made our nominees stand out, then look for our writers’ picks for overall winners in Tuesday’s Tampa Bay Times.

Female nominees
Danielle Battle, Tampa Catholic basketball: The senior forward had a season-high 24 points and added nine rebounds in the Crusaders’ 60-54 victory over DeSoto County in their Class 4A region quarterfinal. Her previous high for the season was 15 points against Sarasota Booker on Jan. 17.

Destiny Brown, Boca Ciega basketball: Brown scored 21 points, five in overtime, to help lead the Pirates to a 52-46 overtime win over Robinson in the Class 5A region quarterfinals. It set up a fourth game of the season against Lakewood on Tuesday.

Alex Gittens, Academy at the Lakes basketball: Her defense on a standout Walker Memorial team helped the Wildcats force 41 turnovers and cruise to a 39-point victory in the Class 2A region quarterfinals.

Brianca Roberts, Pasco basketball: The junior guard quarterbacked the Pirates to a 40-38 road victory against Tavares in the Class 5A region quarterfinals. She finished with a team-high 18 points and surpassed 1,000 career points in the win.

Jennie Sittloh, Seminole softball: The senior pitched a three-hit shutout against rival Osceola to help the Warhawks get off to a strong start to the season.

Sabrina Whiting, Seffner Christian basketball: The junior guard scored a game-high 17 points, surpassing the 1,500-point mark for her career in a 62-19 win over Fort Meade in their Class 3A region quarterfinal.

Male nominees
Jason Collister, Steinbrenner soccer: The senior had six goals in three matches, including two first-half goals in Friday’s 4-3 overtime win against Ocala Forest in the Class 4A semifinals. Three nights earlier, Collister had a hat trick in a 3-0 region finals win at Deltona Pine Ridge.

Vic Davila, Nature Coast basketball: The senior guard had a late steal to help seal a 53-48 win over Tavares in the district semifinals. Then in the district title game, he drained a 3-pointer with 3.2 seconds in OT to give the Sharks a 58-56 win over Eustis.

Donavan Hale, Largo basketball: The sophomore guard scored 24 points, including 10 of 12 from the free-throw line, to lead the Packers to a Class 6A, District 12 championship.

Reggie Hart, Chamberlain basketball: The senior scored 68 points in two district tournament games, including 35 in the Chiefs’ 66-56 triumph against Wiregrass Ranch in the 7A-9 final. In his last two district title games, Hart has 75 points.

Dallas Moore, Boca Ciega basketball: The senior scored a combined 60 points in two games at the Class 5A, District 12 tournament, including 42 against Lakewood in the district semifinals to secure a playoff berth.

Connor Spencer, Sunlake soccer: The standout sophomore scored with 3:06 left in double overtime to give the Seahawks a 2-1 win at Gainesville Eastside in the Class 3A region final.
