HomeTeam Hot Shots
A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week.
Female Hot Shot: Casey Moore, Clearwater Central Catholic
Sport: Volleyball
Skinny: The senior setter has been the Marauders’ leader all season. That was never more apparent than when Moore recorded 95 assists to lead Clearwater Central Catholic to the OVA High School Showcase title in Orlando. In nine games, she has 211 assists — or 9.2 per game. “She is our offensive leader,’’ CCC coach Stephen Shepherd said. “She is an extremely calming influence on the floor. The hitters are all sophomores, so as the senior she doesn’t get rattled.’’
Male Hot Shot: Noah Siegrist, Hudson
Sport: Football
Skinny: The junior running back continued a solid season with the best performance of his career last week. Siegrist rushed for 165 yards on 22 carries and broke off a 52-yarder to help Hudson mount an 18-point comeback in the fourth quarter. He added a two-point conversion to help force overtime in the Cobras’ 27-24 victory over Ridgewood, which snapped Hudson’s 24-game losing streak and avenged last year’s loss to Ridgewood in the final minutes. “He’s one of those kids — a typical Hudson kid, tough, solid foundation at home,” Cobras coach Mark Kantor said. “The kid always smiles every day, no matter what the circumstances are. He’s a bright kid, motivated to do his very best, not only for himself but for his team and his community.”
