HomeTeam Hot Shots
A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week.

Female Hot Shot: Balea Schumacher, Mitchell
Sport: Soccer
Skinny: The Nova Southeastern commit added to an already impressive season by scoring two goals in the Mustangs’ Class 4A region quarterfinal win. Schumacher, in her second varsity season at Mitchell, has racked up career totals of 17 goals and 21 assists. “Balea is a dynamo in the midfield and an essential part on our team,” coach Karl Kukec said. “Together with (Danielle) Gottwik, she is setting the pace and dominance of our midfield in every game so far this season.”

Male Hot Shot: Tom Guglielmello, Land O’Lakes
Skinny: The 6-foot-1 guard shined against Gulf when he scored a game-high 27 points. The junior also made five 3-pointers and has hit 22 from beyond the arc this season. It was a breakout performance for the junior, who is averaging 8.2 points per game. “Tommy played a great game for us,” Gators coach Dave Puhalski said. “He can have that type of game any given night — especially when he gets in his zone.”
