A spotlight on the Tampa Bay Times’ bay area players of the week.

Female Hot Shot: Lauren Evans, Academy at the Lakes
Sport: Softball
Skinny: The USF commit isn’t slowing down in her final season with the Wildcats. She had a run, two RBIs and a .750 fielding percentage against Seven Rivers Christian last week and has a .609 batting average for the season. Evans leads her team in scoring with 11 runs and seven RBIs through nine games.  

Male Hot Shot: Ryan Talburt, Sunlake
: Baseball
Skinny: This is Talburt’s third year starting for the Seahawks, and he’s already shown his importance at Sunlake. Talburt held River Ridge, a contender in Class 5A, District 8, to just six hits and no runs in a recent 3-2 victory. The senior has struck out 12 batters in 17 innings pitched this season. He’s also 2-for-2 on stolen bases and has four RBIs.
