HomeTeam Hot Shots
A spotlight on the Times’ bay area players of the week.
Female Hot Shot: Morgan Tolle, Jr., River Ridge
Skinny: The James Madison commit is one of Tampa Bay’s leaders with a .651 batting average and compiled one of the best stretches in her career last week. The infielder was 8-of-10 with no strikeouts in victories over Anclote, Sunlake and previously unbeaten Seminole. She scored seven runs and batted in eight more during that span. Tolle, a second-team all-North Suncoast pick last spring, also leads Pasco County with five home runs and 26 RBIs. Tolle ended the week by helping her Royal Knights knock off Bloomingdale and defending state champion Durant before suffering their first loss of the year – a 1-0 defeat to Plant in the Lady Canes tournament final.
Male Hot Shot: Trayvon, Bromell, Sr., Gibbs
Skinny: At last week’s West Coast Invitational, Bromell solidified his status as the bay area’s top sprinter by winning the 100 (10.51 seconds) and 200 meters (21.67) against a fast field. His time in the 100 is the fourth-best in the nation and his time in the 200 ranks 13th according to milesplit. But Bromell might have saved his best performance on the anchor leg of the 4x100. Bromell made up enough ground to help the Gladiators score an upset over previously undefeated and nationally ranked Lakewood in the event with a time of 42.45.
