LAND O’LAKES — Land O’Lakes coach Lauri Tysko knew Hudson would be a tough opponent Wednesday night.

Not just because of the Cobras’ record, but because she has been hearing about it all week at her place of employment: Hudson High School.

And in a match that was similar to last week’s loss to Nature Coast, the Gators committed 21 errors and Hudson would capitalize in a 25-14, 18-25, 19-25, 25-15, 15-12 nerve-racking victory.

“That was an intense game,” Hudson coach Kourtney Newton said. “My girls played their hearts out and they proved that out there.”

Hudson (13-5) got off to a hot start, jumping all over the Gators 25-15 in the first game. Cobras outside hitter Logan McGee (13 kills) led the early charge in the first game with three kills.

The Gators (15-3) stayed confident and proceeded to win the next two games behind strong play from Nicole Woodward (seven kills) and Morgan Crescent (nine kills).

A yellow card to outside hitter Julie Penna hurt Land O’Lakes in the last couple games.

And it showed down the stretch.

The Cobras jumped out to a 10-4 lead, but Land O’Lakes battled back to within 11-10.

But that was as close as the Gators would get, as a kill by Karlie Lamphier (six kills) and an ace by McGee sealed the deal.

“I had to hear about this matchup all week,” Tysko said. “Our serves killed us, but we played pretty good.”
