Hudson MLB Steven Phillips has orally committed to Averett University, Cobras coach Mark Kantor said Wednesday afternoon.

Phillips made his commitment to the Cougars during a phone call Wednesday.

Phillips earned second-team all-Sunshine Athletic Conference honors as a senior. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound athlete helped turn Hudson around with a team-leading 105 tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles.

Averett is an NCAA Division III program in Danville, Va. The Cougars finished 1-9 last fall.
