Hudson has three new varsity coaches, athletic director Keith Newton announced Wednesday.

The Cobras hired Laurie Tyszko as girls basketball coach, Destin Stanley will coach boys golf, and Ken Wiebeck will return as the boys swimming coach.

Tyszko was the head coach at Land O'Lakes last season, leading the Gators to a 24-3 record, a district championship and the school's first trip to the region final. The Hudson graduate coached Land O'Lakes' volleyball team last year and will be the JV volleyball coach for the Cobras.

Newton said she was the top applicant because of her ties to the area, which could increase participation numbers and lead to the formation of a JV team. Tyszko will also be an instructional assistant at Hudson.

"She knows a lot of our kids and the area, so she would be a good recruiter for our kids - getting them out of our school and onto the basketball team," Newton said.

Wiebeck was a former swimmer at the University of Michigan and coached at Hudson last season. The Cobras thought they would lose Wiebeck because of budget cuts, but they were able to rehire him after posting the job opening again. Wiebeck will also teach math.

Stanley will be a first-year head coach. The former Gulf standout and USF graduate taught elementary school PE last year and will teach PE at Hudson this fall.
