Hudson quarterback Will Fulmer is likely out for the year with an ankle injury, Fulmer confirmed Thursday morning.
The 6-foot-2 junior transferred from Gulf early in fall practice but immediately became the Cobras' starter. Fulmer said he partially tore two ligaments in his right ankle last week against CCC, and doctors aren't optimistic that they'll heal in time for him to return this season.
"I could make it back, but the doctor doesn't think it's going to happen," Fulmer said in a text message.
Hudson has moved freshman QB Joey Caruso up from the JV squad, and Caruso is expected to start Friday against Ridgewood (0-3) in Friday's Class 5A, District 5 opener, Fulmer said.
Fulmer's loss is a big blow for Hudson (0-2), which loses one of its top players on an already depleted roster. The Cobras had started to tweak their run-heavy offense to utilize Fulmer's big arm.
