Hudson standout defensive end Gary Myrick left the bay area Friday for Valdosta, Ga., hoping to receive a scholarship offer from Division II Valdosta State on his official visit with the Blazers.
Valdosta State was highly interested in the 6-foot-5, 250 pound Myrick and brought the prospect in this weekend thinking he might commit on the spot.
Both sides got what they wanted by the time Myrick departed the Blazers' campus.
Myrick accepted a scholarship offer from Valdosta State on his official visit and will sign with the Blazers in a ceremony at Hudson High on Wednesday according to Cobras head coach Justin Fenton.
Myrick was an all-Sunshine Athletic Conference and St. Petersburg Times first team selection at defensive end following the 2010 season after making 42 tackles and 11 sacks.
On offense, Myrick is a tight end prospect and caught nine passes for 366 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed 18 times for 192 yards and two touchdowns.
