Hudson coach Mark Kantor has been named the Tampa Bay Bucs’ coach of the week after leading the Cobras to their first win in his tenure.

Hudson snapped a 24-game losing streak with an 18-point fourth-quarter comeback to earn a 27-24 overtime victory against Ridgewood on Friday. It was the program’s first win since beating Wiregrass Ranch 20-18 on Nov. 6, 2009.

Kantor, who took over the Cobras in the offseason after Justin Fenton resigned, led Gaither to three playoff appearances in a row during his nine years as that school’s head coach.

“I get that honor, and it’s great, but it’s because of these guys right there and the assistant coaches I’ve had put the work in to do everything,” Kantor said after Tuesday’s practice. “It’s really their award. It just has my name on it.”

Kantor is the second North Suncoast coach to receive the award this season. Springstead’s Bill Vonada was honored by the Bucs after a 35-0 win over Fivay in Week 2.
