Gulf FB Will Burbridge is expected to make an official visit to Division I-AA Jacksonville next weekend and an offer could come soon, his coach predicted.
“We feel pretty confident in saying they’re going to offer him a full ride,” Gulf coach Jay Fulmer said.
The 6-foot-2, 220-pound Burbridge is likely to play FB or H-back in college.
Fulmer is surprised that Burbridge, who rushed for 585 yards on 70 carries last fall, isn’t getting more attention.
“I think Jacksonville makes out like a bandit if they get him,” Fulmer said. “I think he’s a steal. Nobody ever wants to recruit a fullback until they’re on the 2-yard line and they ain’t got one.”
JU is coached by former Florida Gators QB Kerwin Bell.
Bell knows all about being overlooked.
While at Mayo-Lafayette High in the early 1980s, he garnered little recruiting attention and ultimately walked on at Florida. Once there, he eventually became an All-Southeastern Conference performer.
