Jefferson cornerback Will Watson, one of Hillsborough County's top defensive backs, has committed to Iowa State, Jefferson coach Jeremy Earle confirmed Wednesday.
Watson committed to the Big 12 school Wednesday morning. Watson, who also owned offers from Ball State, Alabama-Birmingham, Bethune-Cookman and Bowling Green, has yet to visit the Ames, Iowa campus.
The 6-foot, 180-pound Watson made 58 tackles (4.1 a game) and tied for the team lead with two interceptions and seven passes defended last year for the Class 3A state champion Dragons.
The Cyclones are very active recruiters in the bay area, and their current roster includes former Clearwater LB Jeremiah George, ex-Largo DB Leonard Johnson and former Gibbs WR Jarvis West.
He's the first Jefferson senior to commit from a team that also includes D-I prospects like DE Tyriq McCord, WR Adrian Jenkins and WR Charles Booth.
