Jefferson senior defensive end Tyriq McCord, one of the Tampa Bay area's top recruits, has received an invitation to play in next year's U.S. Army All-American Game, he confirmed Friday.
The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder led Hillsborough County with 18 1/2 sacks last year as an anchor to the Dragons' Class 3A state champion defense.
He is ranked the No. 13 prospect in Florida and No. 60 overall by Rivals.com, while ESPNU ranks McCord as the nation's 13th best defensive end recruit and 99th best prospect overall.
McCord, who has offers from the likes of Michigan, Florida, TCU, South Carolina, USC, Miami and North Carolina, said he has yet to commit to play in the game and plans to wait a while before pledging.
Along with the Under Armour All-American Game, which has been played in St. Petersburg the last two years, the U.S. Army game is one of two major showcase All-American games for high school seniors.
McCord is slated to attend today's Friday Night Lights game at the University of Florida.
