Jefferson shooting guard Laurie’ Beaty, who helped the Dragons to the Class 4A state tournament this past season as a junior, has been picking up several scholarship offers on the AAU circuit.
Beaty, who is playing for Florida Girls Basketball based out of Orlando, has received 10 scholarship offers, all of which have emerged this month through club ball, FGB coach Kenny Kallina said.
Kallina said Beaty owns offers from North Florida, Alabama-Birmingham, USC-Upstate, College of Charleston, Middle Tennessee State, East Tennessee State, Jacksonville University, Morehead State, Norfolk State and Tennessee State.
“She’s also getting a lot of interest from a lot of major schools,” Kallina said. “The schools that are recruiting her now are getting nervous she might get some BCS looks.”
Beaty, a Times second-team all-Hillsborough County selection, led the Dragons in scoring with 15.1 points a game. She also averaged 3.6 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.2 assists per game for a Jefferson team that went 28-4 last season.
