Jefferson senior running back Shaquille Speights has signed with Limestone College in South Carolina, according to Dragons coach Jeremy Earle.

Speights is a member of Limestone’s inaugural recruiting class, which will set the foundation for the school’s new football program. Limestone, which will compete as an independent in Division II, will start playing games in fall 2014.

The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Speights rushed for 2,036 yards and 24 touchdowns over three seasons with the Dragons, adding another 494 yards receiving and six touchdowns on 39 receptions.

As a senior, Speights finished with 753 yards rushing and nine touchdowns and 20 catches for 202 yards and three touchdowns. He rushed for more than 100 yards in three of his final four games, including 104 yards and three touchdowns and another 52 yards and a score on six receptions in a 35-31 win over Jefferson on Nov. 2.

Speights was a second-team all-Western Conference selection at the end of the season.

Limestone is a Christian non-denominational school of about 3,500 students in Gaffney, S.C
