Less than two months after the end of his sophomore season, Jesuit right-hander Spencer Trayner has committed to the University of North Carolina, calling it "above and beyond" any other program he has visited.

Such praise from the six-game winner gains even more altitude considering Trayner also had visited 2011 national runner-up Florida, LSU, Central Florida and USF.

A lanky (6-foot-1, 150 pounds) go-to starter, Trayner (6-3, 1.74 ERA) struck out 54 and walked only 16 in 56.1 innings this past season. Offensively, he hit .342 with 12 RBIs in 131 plate appearances for the Tigers, who reached the Class 4A state title game.

Trayner said the Tar Heels coaches tabbed him their No. 1 out-of-state recruit from the Class of 2013.

"They made me a great offer," Trayner said, "and they were interested in me."
