Boca Ciega, which last won a state title in 1996, came up short in its latest bid to return a championship to Pinellas County. The Pirates tried hard to reclaim the crown in Thursday's Class 5A final against Fort Lauderdale Dillard. But Dillard proved too tough, winning 53-44. Youth, turnovers and missed free throws all made for a bad combination for the Boca Ciega.
