Former Tampa Catholic and Parade All-America QB Kenny Kelly is among 29 applicants for the Blake football coaching vacancy, created by the dismissal of former Yellow Jackets coach Harry Hubbard.
The list was released Thursday following a request from the Times. Other prominent applicants include former county head coaches Gerold Dickens (Strawberry Crest) and Hugh Dehnert (Leto) and former Tampa Bay Tech/Plant assistant Mo Harris. One of the applicants, D.J. Mayo, was named coach at Chamberlain on Wednesday.
Kelly, who started one season at quarterback at the University of Miami and later played briefly in the Major Leagues, volunteered at TC last season. He is employed in the private sector.
Hubbard was dismissed in December after compiling a 9-21 mark in three seasons. Blake hasn't had a winning season since 2000, the last time it reached the playoffs.
