OCALA — A fast start propelled Berkeley Prep past Orlando Evans 58-50 Thursday in the consolation final of the 37th Annual Kingdom of the Sun Tournament at Ocala Vanguard High School.

The Bucs (9-3) jumped out to a 10-0 lead and held off the Class 6A Trojans (7-6) down the stretch.

Berkeley Prep won its third straight tournament game and six of eight over its past two tournaments. The Bucs were tournament runnerup in 2007.

Nelson Agholor paced Berkeley with 14 points, while Pierce Hunt came off the bench to contribute 13 points and seven rebounds.

Agholor finished the tournament with 52 points and was named to the all-tournament team.

Reggie Barnes added 10 points for Berkeley and Agholor also added eight rebounds in the win.

The Bucs held the Trojans to a 6-of-24 shooting effort in the first half and didn’t allow a point over the first 4:02.

After its opening-round 74-60 loss to tournament finalist Palm Beach Gardens Dwyer, Berkeley allowed its final three foes to average just 34.6 points.

Berkeley led by 10 at halftime and was up by as many as 12 in the third quarter before Evans (7-7) battled back to as close as five on two occasions in the fourth.

The Bucs, though, made 8-of-11 free throws in the fourth quarter to squelch any chances of a comeback by the Trojans.

Terrence Linton scored 10 of his 20 in the fourth quarter to pace Evans, which made 6-of-10 shots from 3-point range. Dre’Kalo Clayton added 17 points, eight rebounds and four blocks.
