Lakewood football coach Cory Moore was scrambling to find a replacement for his team's preseason game on Aug. 23 when Miramar backed out last week.
After working the phones, Moore found a replacement. Lakewood will travel to Ponte Vedra, which is near St. Augustine, for a 7:30 p.m. game on the 23rd.
"It just kind of worked out,'' Moore said. "I made a few phone calls and we were able to get this done. The kids are excited.''
The downside for Lakewood is that it will have to travel again. In the spring, the Spartans played in Miami. They were scheduled to host Miramar, which backed out due to financial constraints.
Like Lakewood, Ponte Vedra is in Class 5A. The Sharks were 9-2 last season and made the playoffs. Lakewood was 10-2 last season and made the region semis.
