Lakewood WR Adams: Missed practices result of medical condition

Standout Lakewood receiver Rodney Adams said in a text message Monday night that he has missed the Spartans' first week of practice due to a heart condition.

Adams, who caught 25 passes for 819 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior, said in the text he has to be cleared by doctors before he can return to the practice field. He said he should be okay, but did not provide further details.

Adams, ranked the Times' No. 5 area recruit, verbally committed to Florida in February but said recently that he is reopening his recruiting after Florida receivers coach Aubrey Hill resigned. Adams played for Team USA in the 19-under World Championship this summer in Austin, Texas, and also plays basketball for the Spartans.

After Monday’s practice, Lakewood coach Cory Moore said he had not heard from Adams and did not know where he was.

“I’m not in the loop,’’ Moore said. “I can only coach the players who show up.’’
