Lakewood junior Tianah Alvarado is out for the season after MRI results revealed a partially torn ACL in her left knee.
Alvarado, a forward, has missed the past three games for the Spartans. She was the Class 4A player of the year as a sophomore after helping lead Lakewood to the state championship. Spartans coach Necole Tunsil said there was a chance Alvarado could play again this season, but they decided to shut her down until next year.
"The doctor said she could probably play but we're not going to risk it,'' Tunsil said. "She's only a junior. She still has next season. We're just going to have to adjust and have somebody step up.''
Lakewood plays Wednesday night at the Queen of the Palms tournament in Fort Myers.
