Lakewood's Fowler back at practice; QB Johnson rehabbing ankle

Lakewood defensive lineman Dante Fowler may play in the Mayor's Cup Classic against Gibbs on Thursday.

Fowler, who has been suspended the past three games for disciplinary reasons, said on his Facebook page that he was back at practice Monday. Spartans quarterback Tracy Johnson said via text that Fowler would be playing this week.

Fowler, a five-star recruit who has committed to Florida State, played in the season opener against Seminole but was suspended following a heated exchange with coaches during a film session. Fowler was never kicked off the team but there was no timetable for his return.

Lakewood coach Cory Moore did not respond to texts asking to confirm if Fowler was playing this week.

Fowler's father, Dante Fowler Sr., said via text that Moore had not yet told him whether his son was playing Thursday and that Fowler Sr. would likely know for sure by Wednesday.

Johnson also said via text that he will play after spraining his ankle in Friday's game against Middleton. Johnson said he is rehabbing during practice this week.
