Lakewood's Rodney Adams commits to Florida

Lakewood receiver Rodney Adams is one of the area's most sought-after recruits in the Class of 2013, with offers coming in daily. But to spare himself and his family the barrage of calls from schools, Adams committed to Florida on Saturday while visiting the school, nearly a year before the next national signing day.

The Gators were Adams' top choice all along. And much like Pinellas Park linebacker Jeremi Powell did a year ago, Adams, the Times' No. 5-ranked junior for the bay area, wasted no time in picking Florida.

This past season, Adams had a breakthrough performance after transferring from St. Petersburg Catholic and led the Spartans with more than 700 yards receiving and seven touchdowns.

Adams (6-1, 170 pounds) also has offers from USF, San Diego State, FSU, Miami, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt and Toledo.
