Max Bartels, a 6-foot-7 center from Land O'Lakes, has orally committed to play basketball at Maryville College for the upcoming season.
Bartels averaged 4.6 points, 7 rebounds and 1.2 blocks a game for a Gators team that finished with a 15-10 record in 2010-11 and ended its season with a loss to Nature Coast in the district semifinals.
As a junior, Bartels contributed 7.3 points and 8.3 rebounds a game for Land O'Lakes.
"Max is a great fit for Maryville College," Fighting Scots head coach Randy Lambert said in a press release. "His best basketball is ahead of him and he is a good student with outstanding personal credentials. As a player, he knows how to defend and rebound. With development of his offensive skills, he should be a productive college post player."
Maryville College is a Division III school located in Maryville, Tenn. The Fighting Scots were 16-10 in 2010-11 and won the Great South Athletic Conference regular season championship. Lambert has coached at Maryville for 31 seasons and has accumulated 584 career wins in that time.
