Land O'Lakes catcher David Perez will play baseball for Marion Military Institute next season after signing recently with the Tigers.

Perez was also considering Prairie State College and Concordia University among others according to his father but decided on Marion because of Tigers head coach Jake Wells' background as a college and minor league catcher.

Perez started at catcher for the Gators this season and also saw time as a designated hitter, first baseman and pitcher. He batted .369 with 22 RBIs, five doubles and three home runs. He scored a team-high 32 runs for the 20-9 Gators.

On the mound, Perez compiled a 2.33 ERA in 21 innings of work and finished 3-3. He struck out 20 batters.

Land O'Lakes was the district (4A-8) runner-up this season and advanced to the playoffs for the first time since 2008.

Marion Military Institute is a NJCAA school located in Marion, Ala.
