Land O’Lakes is scheduled to formally name its football stadium after longtime coach John Benedetto this week.

The Gators will rename their home John Benedetto Stadium on Friday, when Land O’Lakes hosts cross-town rival Sunlake.

Benedetto spent 32 years as the team’s coach and compiled a 196-149 record. A former receiver at the University of Tampa, he took the Gators to 12 consecutive postseason appearances before his contract was not renewed.

Pasco County Schools approved the name change over the summer.
