Land O’Lakes will likely be without RB Harrison Wood this week.

Wood said in a text message that doctors have told him he shouldn’t play in Friday’s Class 6A, District 6 opener district opener against Hernando but that he should be ready to return next week against Springstead.

Wood injured his shoulder in the Gators’ 49-7 loss at Pasco in Week 2. The 5-foot-9, 165-pound back was among Pasco County’s top returning rushers after exploding for a team-high 789 yards and 10 touchdowns during a breakout junior season.

He rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown in Land O’Lakes’ season opener against Zephyrhills before his injury against the Pirates. Larenz Scroggins got most of the Gators’ carries after Wood left the game.
