Largo usually has one of the earliest signing day ceremonies, held before school even starts.
This year was different.
The Packers had to wait until the last minute because coach Rick Rodriguez did not know if he would have any players ready to make their decision in time.
Turns out, there were two: Shawn Barker and Lakeif Daniels.
Barker signed with Wayne State and Daniels signed with Florida A&M during an afternoon ceremony in the school’s weight room.
Barker, a lineman, had options but nothing was concrete until Wayne State came through with an offer this week. Barker jumped at the opportunity and decided to sign on Wednesday.
Daniels, a receiver, has been committed to the Rattlers for some time. There still are qualifying standards Daniels has to meet, but FAMU is holding a scholarship for him.
