NEW PORT RICHEY - Talented Gulf senior Leon Orr is expected to miss two weeks with a high ankle sprain, Bucs coach Jay Fulmer said Monday.

Orr, a Florida Gators recruit who plays tight end and defensive end, hurt his ankle against River Ridge last Friday when he landed awkwardly after attempting to catch a pass. X-rays taken Monday showed no breaks or cartilage damage.

"He can do whatever he can, but no contact for two weeks," Fulmer said.

Fulmer was happy the injury isn't more significant, but still wasn't thrilled.

"It really bothers me because it's going to hinder his conditioning," Fulmer said. "He just now got to the point where he's in good football shape. With big kids, it takes awhile. If he's out two weeks, he returns the week we play Land O'Lakes. We need him to be in top-notch condition that week. Now, I don't know if it's going to be possible."

Gulf (2-0) plays Ridgewood (0-2) this week.

The 6-foot-4, 300-pound Orr is a Rivals.com top 100 national recruit.
