Heralded Gulf football player Leon Orr, like most of the country, was stunned by Urban Meyer’s announcement Saturday that he was stepping down as Florida coach.
But for now, Orr said he’s still all Gator.
Orr, a 6-foot-5, 315-pound DT prospect and Florida commit, said he finished his high school coursework last week and still plans to enroll at Florida in January.
“I’m 100 percent,” Orr said.
Before Orr heads to Gainesville, he wants to make sure Florida defensive line coach Dan McCarney is part of the next Florida head coach’s staff.
“I haven’t talked to (McCarney) yet to see what’s going on,” Orr said. “I’m going to call him after I get off the phone (with the Times). Once I talk to him, I’m pretty sure I will know what I’m going to do. As long as my d. line coach doesn’t leave, I’m comfortable with UF.”
For now, Orr’s main concern is Meyer’s health.
“I’m seriously worried about that,” Orr said. “It has to be something severe to make that kind of announcement. I just don’t believe it.”
