Clearwater Central Catholic's Brandon Leston will appeal to regain his eligibility during a Florida High School Athletic Association section meeting in Bartow on Thursday.

Leston, a football and basketball player, transferred from Clearwater to Clearwater Central Catholic this offseason. But Leston sat on the sideline for last week's preseason game against Palm Harbor University pending an appeal after he was ruled ineligible because he participated in an offseason workout with CCC's basketball team before he was officially enrolled in the school.

Marauders coach John Davis said last month that Clearwater's principal and athletic director signed off on the transfer. Last year, Leston played receiver and was a key member of the Tornadoes' basketball team that reached the Class 5A region final.

Leston was the third football player to transfer to CCC this summer, joining Devon Garnett (Dunedin) and Devantae Mitchem (Boca Ciega). Mitchem also plays basketball.
