Second-year Leto football coach Matt Kitchie announced this morning former Plant assistant Greg Meyer will become the second ex-Panther to join his renovated staff.
Meyer, who spent the past two seasons as coach at Jacksonville Wolfson, will be Kitchie's defensive coordinator. Kitchie also recently announced former Plant and Tampa Bay Tech assistant Mo Harris will run the offense for the Falcons, which hasn't won a game (excluding forfeits) since 2009.
"Mostly it's about our vision for Leto," Kitchie said in explaining his selling job to his new assistants. "The Falcons will be great."
A former two-way lineman for Plant, Meyer served on the Panthers' 2006 and '08 staffs that directed the program to state titles. He went 5-15 in two seasons at Wolfson, but appeared to have laid the groundwork for a breakthrough year in '13. According to the Florida Times-Union, he resigned at the end of the '11 season and returned to Tampa for "family health reasons."
