LSU has become the latest major college football program -- and second from the Southeastern Conference -- to make a scholarship offer to Plant rising senior quarterback Phillip Ely.

Panthers coach Robert Weiner confirmed LSU's offer, saying Ely had spoken directly to Tigers coach Les Miles. Additionally, Rutgers offered Ely today and Clemson offered Wednesday.

Look for the offers to increase for Ely -- and the county's other prominent recruits, for that matter -- now that college coaches have come off the recruiting trail and are making decisions on prospects in their proverbial war rooms.

Ely, who now has 20 offers not counting Ivy League programs Harvard and Princeton, recently was invited to play in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January.
