The Robinson Knights formally embarked on a fresh era Monday by proudly giving one last nod to the previous one.

Coach Mike DePue announced Monday -- the first day of preseason practice for 2011 -- that DL Rob Smith had become the 11th member of last season's senior class to hook up with a college. DePue said Smith (43 tackles, 3.5 sacks) will play this fall at Division III Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio.

A converted fullback, Smith (6-foot-1, 250 pounds), who changed positions after an ankle injury, also recovered two fumbles and caused another last fall.

His departure for college means exactly half of Robinson's senior class from last season will play at the next level.
