Mark Lee has confirmed he will coach Weeki Wachee's football team when the school opens this fall.

Lee was hired in February as the school's first athletic director, a role he will continue. He joins Hernando's John Palmer as another North Suncoast coach/athletic director.

"We had talked about (being a coach and athletic director) in the interview process," Lee said. "I had expressed I was still interested in it. I definitely feel I can do both."

Lee said the football team will play a JV schedule this fall because the school will only have freshmen and sophomores. He said the program will begin spring practice Monday at Fox Chapel Middle School.

Wiregrass Ranch also began with a JV schedule when it opened.

Lee said he will continue to teach at Nature Coast through the end of the school year. Afternoons are spent mostly at home where he racks up a big cell phone bill ordering equipment for Weeki Wachee's athletic teams.

The football program already has helmets and shoulder pads for spring.

Lee, who was fired as Nature Coast's head coach in January, said he is excited about the opportunity to stay involved with football, which is his passion. He guided the Sharks to a 7-4 finish and a playoff berth.

"Right now I can handle both," Lee said. "It's mainly JV sports right now. That will give us time to adjust to everything."
