Middleton junior wide receiver Richard Benjamin, who was carted off the field Friday night in what many feared was a serious right knee injury, appears to be ready for a quick return to the lineup.
Benjamin only received a deep bruise to his knee and leg, coach Alonzo Ashwood said. A visit to the doctors Monday revealed no ligament damage.
Benjamin was back on the practice field Tuesday, running sprints during Middleton's practice session. Ashwood said Benjamin will be held out of this week's game at Spoto, but he said he expects Benjamin to return for the Tigers next game, a district contest against Lakewood on Sept. 30.
Benjamin expects to be one of the bay area's top recruits next year. He already owns nearly two dozen Division I offers, including ones from Florida, Florida State, Miami, USF, Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Southern Cal, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
