TAMPA - Mitchell's quest to become Pasco County's first state champion in boys soccer is now complete.
The Mustangs defeated Jacksonville Stanton 1-0 on Thursday night in a game thoroughly dominated by Mitchell. The win crowns Mitchell as the Class 4A state champions after moving down from Class 6A this season.

The difference came in 22nd minute. Mitchell midfielder Max Rockwell's penalty kick fired lower right was saved by Stanton keeper Ryan O'Farrell, the rebound collected and scored on by Jason Leslie.

O'Farrell was the best hope for the Blue Devils with strong play in net. It was similar to the effort Mitchell keeper Josh Berres gave the Mustangs in a 1-0 (3-1 penalty kicks) victory against Pembroke Pines Charter in Wednesday's Class 4A semifinal.

Mitchell (26-2-3) had already defeated Stanton 1-0 on Dec. 21 in a Tampa tournament.

O'Farrell kept Stanton (18-9-2) in it with arguably his biggest off an Alex Wegener shot in the 38th minute.
