Mitchell QB Spencer Whittaker has verbally committed to play football at Stetson, his father, Dan said Tuesday morning.

The 5-foot-11, 155-pound senior expects to play cornerback for the Hatters.

Whittaker completed 32-of-65 passes for 450 yards last season for the Mustangs in their run-heavy offense. He also rushed 50 times for 102 yards, ran for four TDs and threw for four more.

Whittaker snared four interceptions during his sophomore and junior seasons at Mitchell before becoming the starting quarterback as a senior. He was invited to the Blue-Grey game’s national combine and was the school’s male Wendy’s High School Heisman winner.

Whittaker received interest from Ivy League schools, including Brown, but wanted to stay in Florida to pursue a law degree. He plans to sign during Mitchell’s ceremony next week.
