Shelby Wright, a talented midfielder for the Mitchell soccer team, has committed to Nova Southern University.
Wright, who is graduating next month, will enroll in January.
Nova is a Division II school that competes in the Sunshine State Conference, along with programs such as the University of Tampa, St. Leo and Rollins.
“I had interest from other schools but I picked Nova because of the location and concept that academics came before soccer, unlike many Division I teams,” Wright said in an email.
Wright is a four-year starter and two-year captain.
She was team MVP as a 10th-grader.
Entering her final season, Wright has 38 goals and 45 assists.
She has played club soccer with Tampa-based RSL, and helped that team win a state championship last year.
When Wright isn’t playing soccer, she certainly stays busy.
Wright is dual-enrolled at Pasco-Hernando Community College, is a member of the National Honor Society and Interact Club, is a Special Olympics coach and has lettered in cross country, tennis, Track and Field and volleyball.
